Alberta’s literary events are thought-provoking, wide-ranging, and vibrant. They are at the very heart of the book community. From world-renowned festivals to bookstore-run reading series and book clubs to launch parties and poetry bashes, Albertans know how to celebrate books and the people that create them.
Alberta is home to some world-class writers and readers festivals, including WordFests’ Imaginarium; The Banff Mountain Film and Book Festival; and LitFest: Edmonton’s Nonfiction Festival. Many of these festivals run programming year-round.
There are also events at bookstores, including the How Can You Think That!? Book Club at that brings together the political left and the right at Shelf Life Books; Flywheel Reading Series, run by Filling Station Magazine at Pages Books; and the many formative virtual events run by The Glass Bookshop that have been lifeline in Covid Times.
