It’s February, which means Valentine’s Day, which means love and all that jazz. So you’d think we would be sharing poems about Cupid’s arrow and passion and romance, right? Well there’s enough of that out there right now, so we’re going in a different direction. We’re sharing four poems from Alberta’s magazines that aren’t about love.
“The Tack Room” by Kelly “Punch” Buelow for Canadian Cowboy Country
“yaamihkinit / yiistini (shave the head of, give a haircut to) / (cut)” by Henry Heavyshield for filling Station
“Hardin” by Candice Joy Oliva for Funicular
“4 p.m.” by Erin Wilson for The Prairie Journal
You can read more great poetry by subscribing to one of Alberta’s many inspiring literary magazines or borrow one of them as an e-magazine through your local library.
