The Site Magazine is an award-winning international magazine with a design and production team right here in Edmonton, Alberta. Each issue addresses topics related to our built environment, from diverse perspectives, including the cultural, political, social, and ecological.
This past spring, the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada recognized The Edit Issue with the 2024 RAIC Architectural Journalism and Media Award. The issue’s underlying theme is that “the built environment is never apolitical,” and addresses the inequalities rooted in our everyday surroundings. As the award jury has commented, this issue highlights “the roots of colonialism, racism, and capitalism and encourages us to imagine and create alternative practices that rebuild our world in better ways.” This is a magazine with a powerful message and an important mission.
The Site Magazine was also the recipient of the 2023 National Magazine Award for Best Magazine: Art, Literary, & Culture. The NMA jury appreciated the magazine’s attention-grabbing design and ability to draw in new audiences to a world of Canadian architecture.
That wasn’t the first time the NMA jury had recognized The Site Magazine’s design, editorial, and production quality. The magazine received three of the top 2018 National Magazine Awards—Magazine of the Year, Best Magazine Art & Literary, and silver for Best Editorial Package—in recognition of how the magazine “captures the essence of contemporary publishing through a conceptual approach that illuminates our time in an intelligent, deep, and original way.”
