Editor’s Pick: Creative Scrapbooker

Creative Scrapbooker Magazine is one of those beautifully-printed publications that readers collect and keep for continued inspiration year after year. It’s a quarterly magazine for paper crafters of all kinds, featuring card making, stamping and diverse mixed media projects. Reader’s submissions are shared throughout the colourful pages: “Their creativity, expertise, and enthusiasm are evident in each and every issue […] a glimpse into their creative worlds as they inspire us all with their unique contributions.”

The magazine, started in 2005 as Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine, has expanded globally over the years and re-branded to Creative Scrapbooker Magazine in 2016 to reflect the publication’s global presence in the paper crafting industry.

Alongside the print and digital issues of the magazine, there’s a whole world of online content to inspire. There’s a Creative Scrapbooker blog with creative projects, contests, layouts and design inspiration, as well as free crafty projects with step-by-step printables, sketch files, colouring projects and more.

We asked Katharina Doyle, publisher and co-founder of Creative Scrapbooker Magazine, for her advice to anyone new to scrapbooking. She suggested that the magazine is “the perfect entry point into the world of scrapbooking [and] offers a wealth of creative inspiration and practical advice to help you build your skills at your own pace.”

Newbies and crafting veterans alike will want to check out the annual Great Canadian Scrapbook Carnival (coming up April 11/12, 2025 in Calgary and May 23/24, 2025 in Edmonton). “Even if you’ve never created a scrapbook before,” says Katharina, “the Great Canadian Scrapbook Carnival is the perfect place to jump in!” The event is designed “to welcome scrapbookers of all experience levels—including absolute beginners.” It’s the perfect place to meet fellow creatives, and they’ll be happy to share tips and ideas to kickstart your first project.

There’s an interactive marketplace where anyone is welcome to shop and create with paper crafting exhibitors demonstrating new techniques and products. Or you can register to crop on-site for the two day event—just bring your basic supplies, and get ready to craft, create, and connect with new friends.
