Alberta Kids Can Join the 2021 TD Summer Reading Club

The TD Summer Reading Club is a free, fun way to help encourage kids to read through the summer break. It’s Canada’s biggest, bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, interests and abilities, and is offered both through public libraries and online.

To participate, check with your local public library to see whether in-person registration is open—it varies slightly by location but is usually in mid- to late-June. Your child will receive a free notebook and stickers to track their reading, and your library may also have fun activities and initiatives for kids to take part in.

Kids can visit the Club’s website at www.tdsummerreadingclub.ca to create an online notebook to track and their summer reads, as well as vote on their favourites! They can also access eBooks, a web comic, trivia, colouring sheets, and more. Plus, the reading club is accessible for kids of all abilities, and will provide notebooks and many of the books in alternative formats.

Best of all, the TD Summer Reading Club is a big supporter of Canadian children’s books, and each year they provide an exciting new list of Canadian book recommendations. For those who want to try out the local reads on the list this year, they’re recommending several books written by Alberta authors! Plus, the featured artist they’ve chosen to help make the notebook and program materials lively and fun is Calgary-based children’s book illustrator David Whamond.

Free book club, fun stickers, online book voting, libraries, and Alberta authors—there’s a lot to love about this great annual program.
