Calgary

The Next Page is a classic, charming independent bookstore and coffee shop nestled in a heritage building built in 1912 on the historic Burn Block of Inglewood—Calgary’s oldest neighbourhood, and known as a shopping and arts district. They have a sister-store in Calgary: Pages Books on Kensington. The Next Page sells new and remainder books on its stunning main floor, featuring floor-to-ceiling windows that let natural light into the front of the store, matched by the floor-to-ceiling bookshelves lining its walls, complete with sliding ladders, vintage furniture, wooden floors, an espresso bar and tea shop, and centre display tables with interesting staff picks stacked face up, sure to help launch readers into a new discovery. They also sell used books in their basement, a well-designed space brightened by atmospheric hanging lights.

“Long live the book,” says this locally-owned and dog-friendly store that strives to serve their community with free book deliveries, filling special orders, hosting special events, highlighting the recommendations of their knowledgeable staff, and by making it a priority to feature authors who identify as LGBTQ+ and BIPOC and ensuring these titles are always on display at the store.
