As 2025 is winding to a close, we’re taking a moment to appreciate some of the newer additions to the communities in this fabulous province that we call home. With something for everyone, from expansive library spaces and soothing new spas, to disc golf courses and high tech basketball courts, Alberta’s magazines are your gateway to community connection.
In Airdrie, they’re celebrating the new Inspire library that opened in September 2025, with a space that’s over four times the size of the original building. “There is finally enough space to make even the most diehard user of the old library weep with joy. There are program rooms, play areas, tablets, and nooks for family or friends to cuddle up and read together.” Learn more about the architecture, art installations, and expanded collections, with “New Building, Same Great Library” from airdrielife magazine.
If you love the quiet of a library, but prefer to be pampered, Where Rockies shares all the details of the impressive new Everwild Spa in Canmore. In “The Grand Opening of Everwild Spa” we hear about how even the staircase ascent to the outdoor area is a sight to behold: “It was like you were being funnelled into your experience. You see the sky and nothing else, which sets the tone for the upcoming nature-based experience.”
If you’re looking for that outdoor green space in the city, look no further than Edmonton’s new downtown O‑day’min Park. Info Edmonton shares how “O‑day’min Park Brings Big Green Energy to Downtown Edmonton.” It’s designed to be used throughout the year, with versatility for picnics in the summer and tobogganing in the winter. “Named after the Anishinaabe word for “heart berry” (also the root of the name O‑day’min Ward), the park aims to become the cultural and communal heart of downtown.”
The City of St. Albert has put an existing park space to a fun new use in the past couple of years with a permanent disc golf course at Kingswood Park. The sport—a combination of golf and frisbee—is having a kind of renaissance. There’s no fancy equipment and no entry fees, so it’s a great way to get the family out for something new and entirely different. Learn more in t8n magazine’s “Meet You There: Kingswood Disc Golf.”
For the more tech-inspired sports enthusiast, there’s an innovative new basketball training facility in Calgary. Shoot 360 “combines next-gen technology and virtual trainers to help players of all levels grow their skills,” describes Chris Landry in Avenue Calgary’s “A High-Tech Basketball Training Facility Has Arrived in Calgary.” There’s growing interest in the sport thanks to the city’s relatively new Calgary Surge professional basketball team, and there are plenty of opportunities here for players of all levels.
Alberta’s magazines are always on the lookout for new and exciting activities, facilities and opportunities in your community. Next time you’re looking for something to do, don’t forget to check out your local magazine for highlights! There’s sure to be a new addition to the community headed your way for 2026.
