Summer Activities That Won’t Break the Bank

With longer days and sunny skies comes the urge to get out and do something fun! But even the simplest summer activity seems to come at a cost, and the dollars add up extra quickly when the whole family participates. Thankfully, Alberta’s magazines are always on the lookout for free or inexpensive ways to spend your summer days.

Calgary’s Child has compiled a seemingly endless list of “Free Activities in Calgary This Summer”  including outdoor adventures, arts and cultural events, general attractions, markets, and more, in and around the city. “These activities and events offer a wide range of options to explore in Calgary this summer, ensuring there’s something for everyone to enjoy without spending money.”

For more adult-centric ideas, look no further than The Scene’s “Cheapskate’s Guide to Summer: Freebies & Great Deals.” Did you know that some restaurants and bars offer free arcade games?  “There’s plenty to do around Calgary that won’t leave you looking for beer money under your couch cushions.”

And don’t worry, it’s not just Calgary fun that we have covered. Info Edmonton shares details about “Afternoon Sounds Sessions on 124th – Free Live Music All Summer” for a free, family-friendly music series if you’re “looking for a laidback Saturday plan that hits all the right notes.”

We haven’t mentioned yet that national parks are free this summer! Extend those savings with the Where Rockies list of “Free Things to Do in Banff.” Don’t miss the The Art in Nature Trail with “artwork lining the pathway adds a sense of wonder to an already jaw-dropping scenery along the turquoise waters of the Bow River.”

You can enjoy exploring nature anywhere in the province, and thanks to Nature Alberta’s “A Brave New (Natural) World” we have the inside scoop on the latest free nature apps. “In an era when time on screens is vilified and time in nature revered, maybe it’s time to combine them to get the best of both worlds. Open one of these apps and see what they have to say about the plants and animals around you.”
