Alumni Magazines Have Something for Everyone

There’s a whole world of Alberta magazine content that you might not even know about! Post-secondary alumni magazines are not just for alumni. Their mandate may be a focus on students and faculty, but the result is diverse stories that make a great read for everyone. 

There’s NAIT’s techlifetoday article “Student Business Showcases Underrepresented Voices in Books” about In Her Words, a niche pop-up and online bookseller specializing in women and gender-diverse authors. We love to see a passion for print!

If you’re a fan of the HBO hit series The Last of Us, you’ll be especially interested in SAIT’s LINK magazine feature “Endure and Thrive,” with exciting behind-the-scenes details from the production team.

Mount Royal University’s Summit magazine explores consumer DNA products in “Discoveries and Dilemmas” (June 2024), with stories of family secrets revealed, as well as insight into the science and even potential pitfalls of the technology. 

The Power of AI Is In Our Hands. What Do We Need to Know?” is a February 2024 feature in the University of Alberta’s New Trail magazine. This pieces explores the impact that tools like ChatGPT are already having on our lives, and what experts expect from the technology in the future. 

The University of Alberta’s Augustana campus has their own alumni magazine, Circle. The piece “Voices Rarely Heard” (Winter 2023/24) offers an in-depth look at the cultural programming for Indigenous people in prison.

In the Spring 2024 story “Sanctuary” from Lethbridge Polytechnic’s Wider Horizons magazine, we learn about the perilous journey of three women who escaped death threats in Colombia following their activism in support of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. (Note: While this story references Lethbridge College, they are now Lethbridge Polytechnic).
